Competition closes today!

D-Day is here! You only have until midnight tonight to enter the Pax Britannia competition I am running, the prize being a walk on part in the next Ulysses Quicksilver adventure Human Nature, due to be published this December by Abaddon Books.

There have already been some very impressive entries, so if you want to win you're going to need to pull something pretty amazing out of the hat at the last minute.

Follow this link to my original post about the competition if you want to remind yourself of the competition rules.

Good luck! It's not long now...

Match Wits in the Sunday Express

It was a busy day yesterday. Not only did I spend the morning recording a video about Match Wits with the Kids for a company called Meet the Author, I was also interviewed by the Sunday Express, and had a my photograph taken in preparation for a feature on Match Wits, which is due to run on Sunday 1 June 2008.

So, if you'd like to find out more about the book just before it's published, then pick up a copy of the Sunday Express in 10 days' time.

Closing date fast approaching

Just a reminder for anybody planning on entering the Pax Britannia competition - the prize at stake being a walk on part in the latest Ulysses Quicksilver adventure - that the deadline for entries is Saturday 31 May 2008.

And competition is fierce, although it's not too late to enter. So far people have written reviews of Leviathan Rising, promoted Pax Britannia on their blogs and even produced incredible photographs with themselves cast in the role of a steampunk adventurer.

If you need reminding of the details, or you want to know more, follow this link to my original post about the competition.

And good luck!

Everything you ever wanted to know about Christmas, in a nutshell

It is with great relief and no little pride that I can announce that as of about ten minutes ago I sent my editor at Icon Books the completed manuscript of What is Myrrh Anyway? - a book that answers all those questions about Christmas you're too embarrassed to ask yourself.

In due course edits, corrections and additions will inevitably need to be made, but for the time being I can actually get to bed before midnight for once and drift off to sleep knowing that I've got to the end of another book - my nineteenth, to be precise - and that it's a job well done.

And what's more, I'm off to Italy on holiday on Friday, which will be the first time I've been abroad in five years. The timing really couldn't be better.

So, until next time...

Black Library Day

Today - 17th May - was Black Library Day, when Games Workshop stores all across the UK and Northern Europe celebrated all things Black Library-ish.

It was a day of in-store gaming, hobby activities and competitions based on the stories from BL Warhammer and 40K novels. To help celebrate the event Graham McNeill's The Killing Ground, C L Werner's Runefang and James Swallow's The Blood Angels Omnibus were all available for purchase.

I was a guest at a previous Black Library Day (back in 2002, I think) when it was in its former guise of a day of events at Warhammer World in Nottingham. I remember having a long chat with Gav Thorpe, but not really getting up to much else.

Anyway, as I was in the neighbourhood, I popped into the Kingston GW store and said hello to the guys. They've got some great things planned for the coming weeks and you can be sure that I'll post more about them as soon as.

Until then...

My first podcast

If you've been reading this blog for a while, by now you should know that my next book to be published is a revision guide for parents called Match Wits with the Kids, out in June from Icon Books. And I've recorded a podcast in preparation for the release.

So if you'd like to find out more about the book and how it's exactly the sort of thing that you should be pre-ordering online, then follow this link to the Match Wits blog.

Are you ready to match wits with the kids?

I am very pleased to announce that Match Wits with the Kids, the first educational book I've written (despite having been a teacher for the last 14 years), is in print at last.

I received my first author copies today, and very nice it looks too. Click here to find out more about the book and upcoming events connected to its launch.

P J Holden - update

Many moons ago (on 21 December 2007, in fact) I posted this about the comic artist P J Holden.

P J Holden is an artist who is steadily making more and more of a name for himself within the world of comics. Having started out illustrating scripts for 2000AD (producing a fair few pages for Judge Dredd as well as Future Shocks and the ‘86ers’) he is now working on the ‘Fearless’ mini-series for Image Comics... I came to work with P J when I was scripting strips for Warhammer Monthly. I had written a three-page, one-trick story set in Games Workshop’s Necromunda setting (a futuristic industrial wasteland off-shoot of the Warhammer 40,000 universe) called Slavebreak.

Now, at the time I mentioned that I had been impressed by the amount of effort P J put into creating the various characters for the strip. Well, I'm pleased to say that the Belfast-based comic book creator has been in touch and sent me a link to his own blog - which included a post about 'Slavebreak'!

So, thanks to him I can now post the images he sent me (years ago now!) of the Pit Slave gang who featured in the story.

Enjoy.

You're watching...

I have to confess that I am a fan of TV channel idents, especially those that can currently be seen on Channel 4. However, I also enjoy some of those on BBC one, the swimming hippos, moon landing and the fairy woodland in particular. But none quite compare to this, which appeals to the Doctor Who fan in me.

Over at my Jonathan Green, Author page, I've started posting information on my back catalogue. I've been writing (and getting paid for it) for nearly 16 years and my next project will be my 20th book, so there are a fair few titles in my catalogue.
