I think I like Batman's comment the best.

Coming soon...

16 November 2010

16 November... You may not have thought there was anything particularly special about that particular date (unless your birthday happens to fall on that day, in which case you share it with the Roman emperor Tiberius, Oswald Mosley, Griff Rhys Jones, Frank Bruno and Danny Wallace) but you'd be wrong.

For a start, from 16 November there's only 45 days left until the end of the year. On this day in 1776, during the American Revolutionary War, Hessian mercenaries captures Fort Washington from the Patriots. On this day in 1857, twenty-four Victoria Crosses are awarded (the most in a single day) after the second relief of Lucknow. On this day in 1938, LSD was first synthesized by the Swiss chemist Dr. Albert Hofmann at the Sandoz Laboratories in Basel, Switzerland. In 1940, during World War II, in response to Germany's leveling of Coventry, England two days before, the Royal Air Force bombed Hamburg. In 1945, Operation Paperclip saw the United States Army secretly admit 88 German scientists and engineers to help in the development of rocket technology, on the very same day that UNESCO was founded.

But 16 November 2010 is going to be a special day as well. First off it's the day that the Solaris Books horror anthology The End of the Line is launched at Foyle's Bookshop, Charing Cross Road, London...

and secondly because this is out the same day...

Curse of the Mummy - The Mummy Returns

I am very excited to be able to announce that my third Fighting Fantasy gamebook Curse of the Mummy will be getting the makeover treatment and coming out in a new edition in February 2011. Forest of Doom will be released in the same format at the same time, with Appointment with F.E.A.R. and Armies of Death coming two weeks after that in April 2011.

Here's a sneak peak of both the re-designed covers.

I also recently came across frankly a quite remarkable map for Curse of the Mummy and was sorely tempted to post it here - I mean, it's just so lovely to look at - but then decided against it as it contains massive* spoilers for anybody who's not read the book yet.

If you'd like to see it for yourself, it won't take you long to find with the help of Google.

* And I mean MASSIVE!

Children's Book Week and The Way of the Warrior

In case you didn't already know, this week is Children's Book Week. And so it is with rather opportune timing that my latest book has also been launched this week.

"Launched?" I hear you say. Yes, launched.

The Way of the Warrior is one of those books that you can personalise for the child of your choice. Such books have been around for a while now, but what makes this one different is that it's the first Star Wars book of its kind. And I wrote it (he says proudly).

To find out more, and to order one for that special small person in your life (and it's suitable for girls or boys as well as budding Jedi or Sith), follow this link to the Penwizard website.

Children's Book Week runs from 4-10 October and you can find out more about it at the Booktrust website.
